How to Keep your Paintball Marker Running Like New

clean paintball marker

A high quality paintball marker is not a cheap investment and like most expensive items, you want to ensure it lasts for a long time. Proper paintball marker usage, maintenance, and cleaning are the key tasks to keeping your gun working efficiently for years to come. Whether you’re a professional paintball player or just a weekend warrior, following these simple tips will keep your paintball marker operating at peak condition.

Important Note: Always remove the air source from you paintball gun before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

Clean Your Marker

Mud, dust, and dried paint are like a disease that will slowly kill the performance of your marker. A dirty marker is less accurate, jams frequently, and will not re-cock properly. A little bit of routine cleaning will make a huge difference in the reliability of your paintball marker. First, always make sure to wipe down the marker after every use. Pay attention to removing all mud and dust from any moving parts. The increased friction from dirt will cause premature failure to those parts. Next, disassemble the marker and wipe down each piece with a water dampened cloth. Make sure that you do not use any chemicals or cleaners that may hurt the finish or integrity of the gun material. Finally, the barrel is an essential part to clean. Take a squeegee and make sure all wet or dried paint is removed from the inside of the barrel. Residual paint in the barrel will decrease accuracy and may even cause paintballs to break apart. Remember that a clean paintball gun is a fun paintball gun.

Properly Lubricate Your Marker

The most important thing to do before lubricating you marker is to read the instruction manual. The instruction manual will identify what type of oil or grease is specifically needed for your marker and the interval frequency suggested for lubricating your marker. Paintball markers all have moving parts and need this lubricant to function properly. Remember to use lubricant in small increments. Too much lubricant is just as bad as no lubricant. Excess oil and grease will attract dirt to the moving parts of the marker. A properly lubricated marker will be more accurate and experience fewer failures during game time.

Always Check the O-Rings

Compressed air propels the paintballs from your marker. The o-ring seals that hold the compressed air in the paintball gun are essential to achieve peak performance. Listen for any audio cues coming from your gun. If the marker is consistently hissing, it probably has a busted o-ring. Before removing and inspecting the o-rings, please read your owner’s manual. It is important to identify the location of each o-ring on the marker for reassembly. Visually inspect each o-ring for any cuts or tears and replace as needed.

Change Your Batteries Regularly

Sometimes you marker will just not work properly – this is a good hint that your battery may need charging or replacement. A marker that has enough battery power to fire may not have enough power to work at its best. Many times the fix to the problem requires a simple battery change. Having sufficient power in the paintball gun will save you many headaches on game day. Make sure to check your batteries before every usage and to keep a spare set of batteries while playing.

Keep It Out of the Muck

A clean paintball gun makes a happy paintball player. Unfortunately, paintball is always the most exciting when enjoyed in not-so-clean settings (such as the mud and rain), conditions that can wreak havoc on maintaining a properly working marker.  When playing in these circumstances, try to avoid fully submersing your gun in the water or mud. A good idea is to use a plastic wrap over the top of your paintball marker to keep it out the elements. It isn’t always easy to keep your marker completely free of mud and water, but doing so will keep it running smoothly for years.

This design ensures steady trigger feel even in the most adverse conditions with or without gloves. Customizable forward and backward travel with spring tension adjustment create the perfect pull. With the push of a button the DAM can switch from Semi Auto to Three Round Burst to Fully Automatic, or if you want to get fancy you can even program specific firing modes that cater to your style of play. Precision or volume, just a button away. The all new In-Line regulator is based on the proven Hyper line of regulators and improves on it with the easiest access and simplest break down of any gun Dye has made. With the Quick Release Bolt any operator can toollessly access their bolt and regulator in one simplified assembly. Now all parts that require standard maintenance are accessed with 2 turns. With velocity adjustment accessible through the back cap, we’ve moved the regulator out of the way for that real military look and operation. The DAM comes magazine feed ready. Ambidextrous magazine release for right and left handed users makes reloading a snap and allows you to keep an extremely low profile, even when reloading. All Dye magazines are Shaped Projectile ready and waiting to deliver each shot just like a real firearm. Leave the accuracy-by-volume to the trigger monkeys and do it like the big boys. One shot, one kill.

blogThe 2 interchangeable shroud sections and front cap allow the operator to reconfigure the DAM for any style of play. With all shroud sections installed, the DAM has over 2 feet of standard Picatinny rails.  All side and bottom rails are removable and interchangeable. Picatinny rails are standard for fire arms and will allow attachment of any standard optics, grips, etc. Be the most versatile player on the field with the all new OTF system. Combined with the rotating eye pipe gearing, this system allows the operator of the DAM unprecedented options for loading capabilities. With the slide of the OTF switch, the operator can seamlessly move from traditional hopper fed, to magazine fed loading, and back again at a moments notice. Use your shaped projectile rounds when you need precise shots and go back to regular paint when volume is necessary. The Dye DAM comes standard with a feedneck Cover Plate that can replace the feedneck assembly giving the operator an unbroken top Picatinny Rail compatible with all standard military optics. Reduces your profile and gives your DAM the most realistic look and feel. It also comes with an adjustable cam lock feedneck allows you to securely lock you loader onto your gun without tools. DYE’s cam lock feed neck sits low and tight on the marker making sure your loader stays low profile with the rest of your gear. The Eye Pipe, patent pending, internal design houses multiple critical systems that ensure worry free performance. The polycarbonate pipe shields the self-cleaning anti-chop eye system from dirt and broken paint, ensuring the eyes are always monitoring the breech and ball drop. The seamless pipe is wiped clean by the bolt tip o-ring on every cycle. The Eye Pipe system also eliminates miss feeds and double feeding. In addition it eliminates external eye plates and the potential of stripped or corroded eye plate mounting screws. With even easier Toolless access to the battery and extra thick ergonomic design, this all new grip improves on every aspect of these top-of-their- class grips.

Planet Eclipse Etek 4

Now in stock and ready to ship from Ultimate Paintball is the Planet Eclipse Etek 4 AM and Etek 4 LT !  New 3D machining with sleek lines. The Body has an integrated male FRM the same as Ego11 and Geo2 to accept the SL3 Regulator. Internally and performance-wise, the exact same regulator that can be found THE ETEK4 NOW INCLUDES ITS OWN ANGLED REG SWIVEL…on the Ego11, CSL and Geo2.1. It allows the Etek4 to run with HP, MP or LP tanks without the need to alter settings and inline regulator adjustments. It has a replaceable and reversible main seal as well as self-purging feature to leave the firing chamber de-gassed after tank removal. Similar to those seen on the Geo2.1 and Ego11, the Etek4 now includes its own angled reg swivel. The new OOPS combines a low profile, ultra-easy on/off/purge function and front-mounted hose exit. As with all Eclipse markers since 2007 the Etek4 utilizes the T-Slot Rail. The Etek4 will also accept a POPS ASA.

etek1The incredibly successful Zick2 kit is now to be found as standard on the Etek4. The Etek4 kit utilizes a unique rammer cap to work with the Etek4 rammer housing. Like the full-fat Shaft4 barrel, the Etek4 barrel utilizes a 2-piece, reverse threaded construction with a longer rear control bore for increased efficiency and consistency. The barrel is internally finished identically to the Geo and Ego Shaft4 barrel but features simplified external machining. The rear bore is honed to 0.693″ diameter and both front and backs are compatible with Shaft4 Boost Kits and Tips. The feed is offset to one side by a small amount. This prevents the balls that tumble into the breech from bouncing excessively and causing breaks and chops. Again carried over from the Ego range, the Etek4 now has a Cure bolt as standard, as well as a body-contoured cut at the rear so the bolt blends seamlessly into the marker body. The Cure bolt helps the Etek4 to shoot the most fragile of tournament grade paints without worry of breaks due to the bolt clipping paintballs in the feed stack. The Etek4 will accept Cure3+ and Cure4 upgrade bolts. The Etek4 Minifold mounts the ever-faithful SMC solenoid directly to the marker body, directly adjacent to the rammer. There is just a single hose taking the LP air from the LPR to the Minifold where it is filtered for added protection against debris. With the same LPR found on the Ego11 and CSL, the Etek4 offers precise control of LPR pressure, without the risk of accidental over-pressurization of the solenoid or rammer. The Trigger rides in a self-lubricating trigger holder that clips neatly into the frame. This, combined with the magnetic trigger return mechanism, creates a smooth, positive trigger feel. It is adjustable for fore and aft stop as well as magnetic return strength. Using the same components and software as the Ego BBSS system, the Etek4 ensures that the marker excels at preventing chopped balls in the breech. When enabled, the Etek4 will only fire once a ball has loaded into the breech. If the BBSS system sees any kind of fault, the software automatically overrides the system and the marker continues to fire at a greatly reduced rate. These 3 clever LEDs allow easy programming of all the user definable parameters by greatly simplifying the programming process. The top LED indicates 10s of units, the middle displays 1s and the bottom shows 0.1 increments. Etek4 has user-definable settings for Dwell, Ball-in-Place, Eyes-Off ROF, Capped ROF (un-capped in Semi 1), Debounce, and Firing Mode. As standard the Etek4 has the capability to be set to cover every tourney regulation. The Etek4 grips follow the same design as the Geo and Ego grips. Comfortable, slim, grippy and soft. The Etek4 LT utilizes glass-reinforced impact resistant composite parts for the frame, eye cover, feedtube and OOPS knob. All other materials are the same high grade alloys found in the Geo and Ego range of markers. The Etek4 AM is of an All Metal construction that replaces all of the above composite parts with machined alloy parts. etek

A Beginner’s Guide to Paintball Gun Shopping

paintball gun

With the huge amount of paintball products that are currently on the market, it can often be confusing for new players that are looking to purchase their first paintball gun. Luckily, we have put together a few simple things to consider when purchasing your first paintball gun that will make the process much easier.  By following this guide you will be able to determine your perfect gun and be able to enter the game as quick as possible without spending an arm and a leg or finding yourself with a second-rate gun.

Determining Play Style

One of the most important questions that the paintball enthusiast will have to ask themselves is the type of game-play that they will be participating in. For those that are very new to the game and will most likely only be a casual player, entry-level guns are typically sturdy, affordable, and easy to use. Options such as the Tippman 98 Custom are durable enough to be played in even the harshest of conditions and provide versatility for nearly any style of play.

Moving up from entry level guns, players can decide if they will want to engage in competitive tournaments or focus on casual games with other enthusiasts. Traditional tournaments are held on smaller fields and games are typically called ‘speedball’ due to their fast-paced nature. Smaller guns with compact upgrades are more suited for this style of play as players will need to navigate through inflatable bunkers and other obstacles. Larger and heavier guns are generally reserved for larger scenario or ‘woodsball’ games.

Main Components of a Paintball Gun

When choosing a paintball gun, it is important for players to understand the major components of a marker and how each will affect the overall quality. Many entry-level guns cannot be upgraded, but mid to high-end electronic markers can be slowly upgraded as one becomes increasingly skilled. Small additions such as upgraded springs, lighter barrels, longer barrels, new o-rings, remote tanks, and nitrogen tanks work great with brands such as Spyder and Tippman that offer very common and interchangeable parts.

Other Considerations

For those that are ready to make a purchase, it is also important to take a closer look at some of the other costs that will be associated with the game. No matter the types of games that will be played, essentials such as gun lubricant, paintballs, and tank refills will need to be purchased along with safety and maintenance gear. Other products that should be purchased alongside the gun itself include a mask, barrel cleaners, barrel plugs, pads, and harnesses. For those that would like to save money, some of the top gun manufacturers typically sell entry and mid-level packages that include the gun itself along with all other required gear at a reduced price.

Planet Eclipse Ego LV1 Paintball Gun

Available now at Ultimate Paintball is the new Planet Eclipse Ego LV1 Paintball Gun!! When Planet Eclipse decided to halt the annual release of its flagship marker, the Ego, many people assumed that is was because Planet felt that there was little could be done to improve on the existing design; this simply wasn’t the case. In 2011 Planet Eclipse decided that rather than spend time making small, incremental changes to its models – in order to conform to the industry annual release model – it would utilize time more productively by making more significant changes, less often.  It has been over two years since the launch of the Ego11 (renamed to the Ego-S in 2012) and that time has been used to dissect the Ego, and poppet-valve markers in general, in order to better understand every aspect of their function; to break down their operation into its component elements so that a new system could be designed, one that overcomes all of the shortfalls of the conventional poppet design while retaining all of its strengths. As a result, the Ego LV1 utilizes technology never before seen in a paintball marker in order to transform the way that it shoots and feels, yet still provide the robustness, hassle-free reliability and ease of maintenance that Egos are renowned for.

planet-eclipse-ego-lv1Internally the Planet Eclipse Ego LV1 Paintball Gun introduces a revolutionary new design that rewrites what can be achieved with this type of platform. The system incorporates a profiled (cam-shaped) lever between the rammer and the exhaust valve that is used to separate the action of the rammer and bolt from the action of the valve. This additional element in the mechanism has several major benefits over the conventional directly-linked knock-open system, particularly with respect to the force required to open the valve and the rate at which the valve is opened. This indirect operation of the exhaust valve means it can be opened slower, with considerably less force, yet retain excellent seal integrity, something that has blighted other low opening force or balanced valve systems.  While existing designs may require a low force to open the exhaust valve they are still bound by the need to overcome blowback using the speed and mass of the bolt which means that the valve has to be opened with a greater speed than is actually required. Often, these designs will also suffer from low closing forces that can drastically affect efficiency. The LV1 suffers none of these drawbacks: the valve can still utilise a large closing force to help create a robust seal and yet, through the mechanical advantage of the lever, it requires significantly less force from the rammer to open it. Also, because the lever has a shaped profile, similar to a cam, the rate at which the valve opens and closes is no longer in a fixed ratio with the movement of the rammer; this allows accurate and independent control of the power pulse of air behind the ball unlike anything previously seen on a marker of this kind.  Also new for the Ego LV1 is the AT (air transfer) Pipe system. The conventional fittings and macroline hose of previous Ego designs has been removed and the gas is now routed through the frame and across to the HPR via an adjustable pipe. This design keeps the marker body height to an absolute minimum and keeps the trigger hand as close to the barrel axis whilst negating the need for complex and tortured gas paths through the marker body. To ease technical support of the marker the SL4 HPR can either be completely replaced with a standard SL3 HPR or the SL4 swivel can be quickly and easily replaced with the optional hose-style swivel to allow the LV1 to be gassed up with the frame removed. A handy ‘Tech’ Kit is available that includes the SL4 swivel, hose and tank adaptor for those that feel they may need it.  So what are the benefits to shooting the LV1? Well, the smaller forces generated by the reciprocating components (the bolt and the rammer) due to lower LPR pressure and the smoother profile of the air which is released behind the ball combine to greatly reduced kick and significantly lower the sound signature. The change is so marked that in terms of feel and sound the Ego LV1 is no longer comparable to other poppet-based markers, but instead finds itself competing with the very best spool operated devices. The LV1 has to be seen and shot to fully appreciate the leap forward this system has made to poppet valve markers.  Of course, the lever operated valve is only one of the innovations in the Ego LV1, there are many more improvements throughout the entire marker; front to back; inside and out. For example the exhaust valve itself is a completely new design: from the profile of the “onion bulb” valve to the fully sheathed valve spring, the goal is to provide a path that is as smooth as possible, leading up to and through the valve, in order to reduce turbulence and allow the air to flow and work as efficiently as possible. The exhaust valve and valve guide also incorporate a very large post-release sensing surface area that is tuned to complement the lever mechanism and the forces generated by the reciprocating parts. This works to shut the valve off quickly after each shot so that the excellent efficiency that users expect from a poppet valve marker is retained. The vast increase in valve chamber volume that the LV1 offers over previous Egos further aids this feature and helps lower the overall operating pressure of this marker.  You can get your Planet Eclipse Ego LV1 Paintball Gun today at Ultimate Paintball!!
