Ultimate Paintball: Skirmish ION 2014

Ultimate Paintball is mainly an online business but, as of late, we have been making our way to the paintball events across this great nation. We have already went to Living Legends 7, D-Day in Oklahoma and,  Now we are going to what is supposed to be the biggest event of the year. Invasion of Normandy in Pennsylvania is supposed to have thousands of players and visitors and we are bringing our giant trailer and putting up a tent to sell a huge selection of our items.

This is something very new for our company we have never went to an even this large and we have never went to an event that will take this long to drive. There will be 5 people crammed into our truck and we are driving what could be up to 18 hours (depending on stops). To be honest it is going to be an awful drive but, it will all pay off. We get to hang out with a bunch of people that love the sport. Every day of these events we meet new and interesting people that love the sport that we deal with everyday and they all have interesting stories about playing.

Something that is also really great about these events is that we get to hear, in real time, what people think of our company and think about the products that have been released this year and in recent years. This is always a good thing because it prepares us for future events and lets us know what we could possibly add to our, ever-growing, website.  Paintball is a sport that is constantly changing and evolving so, getting this sort of feedback is vital. If you happen to be coming to this event feel free to let us know what you would like to see on the website or even what we should bring to future events, as we plan to show up to even more next year.

What is great about doing well at these events is that we can upgrade the presentation of our company each time we go. We used to have a small trailer with our name on it and now we have a 50 foot trailer that doubles as a store. Please come check us out at this event and show some love for Ultimate Paintball. We try to do as much as much as we can for our customers so you can definitely expect some great deals in our tent and on our trailer.

As for our website we still have some great deals running, remember you can always get free shipping on orders over $99 to the lower 48 states. This is a great deal that really sets us apart from some of our competitors. They claim to have cheaper prices or claim shipping is cheaper until you actually get through the checkout and you are paying $15 or more to get it shipped to you. We also have a deal running right now (7/1/14) with planet eclipse where you will receive the a free gear bag with the purchase of an LV1 or GEO 3.1

The Ultimate Tips for Shooting

img-thingPaintball may seem easy from an outside perspective, but once you start playing you quickly find out just how complex and difficult the game strategy can be. If you’ve been getting into paintball and are looking to get better, here are some paintball tips that will enable you to take your game to the next level.

Shooting Tips #1. – Aiming

Aiming is a difficult aspect of the game. Of course the best way to aim is by holding the gun high and looking down the barrel at your target. This is ideal when you have good cover. This method is impractical, however, when you’re in an open space as it leaves you vulnerable to attack. Sometimes it’s best to keep your gun at your hip and to fire while moving. While your accuracy will be worse, it’ll throw your opponent off and make you a more difficult target to hit.

Shooting Tips #2 – Movement

Movement is essential to the game. There are many factors that entail skillful movement. One key element is that you always want to be on the move. You can’t stay in one place for too long or you will get surrounded. This does not mean that you blindly rush ahead, however. When behind a bunker, you have to stay behind until shooting has stopped. Also, when moving, you want to be fast, but also keep yourself small. Crouching down ensures that you make the smallest target possible for others to try and hit.

Shooting Tips #3 – The Secret of Snapshooting

Snapshooting is one of the most effective skills to the game. In a nutshell, snapshooting refers the tactic of hiding behind a blockade or bunker, and occasionally popping up to five shots. This can throw your opponent off guard. Though a simple skill, this can be enormously advantageous to your team. Make sure to practice the art of snapshooting whenever you get together to practice with your team. Snapshooting has turned the tables of many a paintball session.

Shooting Tips #4 – Good Equipment

Even with the best strategy and skills, you still need good equipment. While you don’t want to become someone who gets addicted to having all the latest and best gear, you should never underestimate the difference that good equipment can make. If you have the best gun available, it still won’t be effective if you are using sub-par paint. If you aren’t using quality paint in your barrel than your shots are not going to be as efficient and accurate. Shooting with inefficient paint will cause you needless frustration and take away from overall enjoyment of the game.

Shooting Tips #5 – Communication

To go from amateur to pro your team must learn the art of effective communication. As with any sport, communication is critical to functioning as a unit. You must be aware of where team members are on the field. Relaying shooting tips to each other during battle in a way that is not decipherable by opposing paintball players is an effective strategy for one upping your opponent on the field.

Paintball: Are Women Taking Over?

In a world where sports are predominantly male, women are being forced to prove themselves capable competitors, and paintball is no exception as more and more women are flocking to the adrenaline-inducing pass time to blow off steam. As in other sports, females are often discredited as a serious threat and are generally perceived as easy targets. Common stereotypes that women are the weaker sex and “too emotional” for paintball only add fuel to this misconception.

-Physical Capabilities-

Paintball is getting faster and more competitive every year as all players are pushed to run and dodge flying paintballs while packing anywhere from 15 to 30 lbs. of gear or more. Women are forced to train harder both on and off the field to keep up with the men, required to dash, jump, roll, crawl, and dive, all in a fast-paced environment to avoid being shot. Reaction speed is key, as well as hand and eye coordination, and women must embrace a very tomboy attitude in order to perform and earn the respect of their male counterparts.

-Women and Why-

More and more women are finding the enjoyment in the game of paintball, reveling in the rush of adrenaline and the hardcore competing amongst their peers. Paintballing is a great stress-reliever, as well as a significant source of exercise, and women are beginning to dominate where they were originally counted out. The women are wanting to eliminate stereotypes and prove they are just as tough physically and mentally as the men, and are quickly taking their places among the teams as “one of the guys”. Women are perfectly capable of playing for top level teams, and are more than willing to go above and beyond to prove it.

-Playing Like a Girl-

Women cannot be intimidated by male players. Intimidation only leads to looking vulnerable and getting shot. It’s important for a woman to keep her wits about her, and not to worry about a little dirt or breaking a nail. A cool head lets a person focus, and is doubly important when evading rapid attacks from the opposing team. Women are not only following these rules, they’re excelling at them, and it’s no longer unusual for a female teammate to be the last one standing.

While quickly altering the concept that they are inferior to men with their determination and ever-adapting skills, women are just flat-out enjoying breaking down the barriers society raises for them. They’re proving over and over again that they are more than just a girly label whether on or off the paintball field.

Make your Own Paintball Field

Paintball Players Took The Defense In The Shelter

Ever dreamed of having your own private paintball battlefield? Having the ability to host your own paintball games without having to deal with wait times or extra costs to use a field are definitely some major perks to creating your own field. Here we will list some fast and easy steps that you can take to fashion your own paintball field.

Find a Location

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Location, location, location?” Well creating your own paintball field is no different. Your paintball field will be most efficient if you have a spacious backyard, own a piece of private land, or have been given prior permission on a plot to use. Do not go out and assume you can occupy any random space that you have found for your own use. Be wary of your intended field’s surroundings and be smart about your location; make sure that it is in an area that is safe and secure. Remember to check with local laws and be 100% sure that you are complying with all regulations; the last thing you want is to get fined for disregarding something so easily avoidable.

Create Obstacles

Aside from actually playing; building structures and fortifications for your field is probably going to be the most creative part of crafting your own playing ground. If you want to speed up the process, you can use any available items such as old furniture, mattresses, cardboard boxes, and scrap wood to use as small bunkers for your field. If it is big enough for you to hide behind and you don’t care about getting some paint on it, it will likely be a perfect fit. If they are accessible to you: empty barrels, wooden planks, camouflage netting, and sandbags also make for some amazing makeshift cover. If you are feeling a bit more inspired and you have the resources, you can build some bunkers out of raw materials such as creating small pillbox style fortifications out of cement and concrete bricks or even dig some trenches for people to lay in for cover. This step allows for imagination as it is all about giving your field that special touch. Be sure to double check your work for anything that could be hazardous to the players on your field, such as rusty metal edges, exposed nails, etc.

Get your Gear Ready

If you have not purchased all of your gear yet, then now is the time. Paintball guns, modifications, safety gear, C02 tanks, and paintballs are all essential items needed to play a quality game of paintball. The importance of the use of safety gear on your paintball field cannot be stressed enough and it is highly encouraged to take the necessary precautions to purchase what you need in order to have an awesome, yet safe time.

Invite your Friends

Of course; no paintball games on your newly created field would be complete without players. Send out those texts, emails, phone calls, and online messages to your friends and rally the troops for battle. You and your friends can plan tournaments, create game scenarios like capture the flag, or duke it out with whichever competitions appeal to you.

Dye Assault Matrix DAM Paintball Marker Gun

In stock and ready to ship from Ultimate Paintball is the incredible Dye Dam Paintball Gun. If you are a serious woodsballer and want to own your competition, the Dye Assault Matrix DAM Paintball Marker Gun is the gun that will help you do that. Based on a custom design by Youngblood himself, the DAM’s trigger incorporates vertical ridges and an extra wide face, used by top firearms competition shooters. This design ensures steady trigger feel even in the most adverse conditions with or without gloves. Customizable forward and backward travel with spring tension adjustment create the perfect pull. With the push of a button the DAM can switch from Semi Auto to Three Round Burst to Fully Automatic, or if you want to get fancy you can even program specific firing modes that cater to your style of play. All changes can be done with your gun fully assembled, even mid-game. A board lock- out can be implemented to get you on the tournament field or any firing- mode-restricted areas. Precision or volume, just a button away. The all new In-Line regulator is based on the proven Hyper line of regulators and improves on it with the easiest access and simplest break down of any gun Dye has made. With the Quick Release Bolt any operator can toollessly access their bolt and regulator in one simplified assembly. Now all parts that require standard maintenance are accessed with 2 turns. With velocity adjustment accessible through the back cap, we’ve moved the regulator out of the way for that real military look and operation. The DAM comes magazine feed ready. Ambidextrous magazine release for right and left handed users makes reloading a snap and allows you to keep an extremely low profile, even when reloading. All Dye magazines are Shaped Projectile ready and waiting to deliver each shot just like a real firearm. Leave the accuracy-by-volume to the trigger monkeys and do it like the big boys. One shot, one kill.

blogThe 2 interchangeable shroud sections and front cap allow the operator to reconfigure the DAM for any style of play. With all shroud sections installed, the DAM has over 2 feet of standard Picatinny rails.  All side and bottom rails are removable and interchangeable. Picatinny rails are standard for fire arms and will allow attachment of any standard optics, grips, etc. Be the most versatile player on the field with the all new OTF system. Combined with the rotating eye pipe gearing, this system allows the operator of the DAM unprecedented options for loading capabilities. With the slide of the OTF switch, the operator can seamlessly move from traditional hopper fed, to magazine fed loading, and back again at a moments notice. Use your shaped projectile rounds when you need precise shots and go back to regular paint when volume is necessary. The Dye DAM comes standard with a feedneck Cover Plate that can replace the feedneck assembly giving the operator an unbroken top Picatinny Rail compatible with all standard military optics. Reduces your profile and gives your DAM the most realistic look and feel. It also comes with an adjustable cam lock feedneck allows you to securely lock you loader onto your gun without tools. DYE’s cam lock feed neck sits low and tight on the marker making sure your loader stays low profile with the rest of your gear. The Eye Pipe, patent pending, internal design houses multiple critical systems that ensure worry free performance. The polycarbonate pipe shields the self-cleaning anti-chop eye system from dirt and broken paint, ensuring the eyes are always monitoring the breech and ball drop. The seamless pipe is wiped clean by the bolt tip o-ring on every cycle. The Eye Pipe system also eliminates miss feeds and double feeding. In addition it eliminates external eye plates and the potential of stripped or corroded eye plate mounting screws. With even easier Toolless access to the battery and extra thick ergonomic design, this all new grip improves on every aspect of these top-of-their- class grips.

Knowing When to Retreat!

retreating

It may be a hard fact to swallow when your team realizes that it is time to retreat, but in certain scenarios it is an unavoidable tactic. If you find your team in a situation where withdrawal is the best possible option, there are numerous ways to execute a successful retreat.

Strategize a plan:

The whole team must be ready to go to a common safe area if it is necessary to retreat. Determine a place, or multiple places, that provides enough cover to protect the entire team. It’s a good idea to move closer to the assisted team members in order to more readily obtain help. Your assist units should be concealed prior to the start of the game so the opposing team will not have any idea where the players are heading.

Move with a plan:

to repeat, strategize! Retreating does not necessarily mean rushing to safety. While retreating is certainly a defensive move, it is essential to stay alert. While retreating makes certain that the opposing paintball players have much more restricted access to your players, it’s up to the whole squad to take turns in returning fire for cover.

While there is still room for control, end the retreat:

not when the whole team can no longer be shot but when there’s still a chance to fight the opponent. It’ll be harder when the enemies cannot be seen because the damage they could inflict is much worse.

The catch:

There are special occasions when a team retreats just to lure the enemies into a trap. By keeping the paintball team together and drawing back, it might give the opponent the feeling they are already winning, resulting in false confidence and ultimately more vulnerable to attack. Once the assisting unit is behind you, utilize speed and shoot the enemies.

NOTE: Being fired at during a paintball game is not to be used as a reason to retreat. It could be a good chance to change stations and use the advantage for better cover. It might be good to retreat in order to mess up the enemy’s strategies.

The Evolution of Paintball

ultimate paintball

Paintball is a game played by individuals or teams that uses strategy, survival tactics and a gun with markers to defeat the opponent. To play, challengers use paintball guns to shoot or tag the opposing team with a non-toxic, water-soluble polymer. The team that “hits” all the members of an opposing team wins. Games are played in facilities with hard floors, or on indoor and outdoor fields. For nearly 35 years, the game has been played as a recreational activity by family and friends. However, paintball was accepted as a sport in 1999 by the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA), therefore, it can also be played on a professional sporting level. Professional teams go on to compete in major tournaments in an organized competition setting. Additionally, military branches, law enforcement and security organizations utilize paintball technology as a significant part of training.

History

The evolution of paintball began with the Nelson Paint Company. In the late 1970s, the company developed a gas-operated gun with marking pellets to be used for any tasks requiring a semi-permanent mark shot from distances, including marking trees for removal and cows for slaughtering. However, the game itself was created by two friends – Charles Gaines and Bill Gurnsey. The friends developed a set of rules for “survival games,” which tested people’s skills against each other. Their games required a marking pellet gun. After searching for a year, Gaines and Gurnsey discovered that the Nelson Paint Company carried a selection of industrial guns and pellets that was exactly what they were looking for. In 1981 in the state of New Hampshire, Gaines and Gurnsey, along with 12 friends, played the first game of paintball on a 100-acre field without wearing or using any safety equipment.

Gaines and Gurnsey named their idea “The National Survival Game” because of the nature of the first combat. Sometimes, the friends would play as individuals or as teams. However, the object of the majority of the games was based on, “every man for himself.”

Advancements

Through the years, paintball surpassed the simplicity of its beginnings. As more people became interested in the game, forming teams became the standard. In 1982, the first national competition was held. With the game quickly becoming a popular competitive activity, different variations were created, such as capture the flag, speedball and other offensive/defensive scenarios. By 1984, the first indoor field was opened for battle.

Equipment

The safety equipment worn and used while playing paintball has evolved greatly since the initial stages. The original safety goggles worn were the same as the ones worn in laboratories and wood shops. Today, the modern safety goggles are the same ones commonly used in skiing and snowboarding with the added protection of UV resistance and a hard shell that fully covers the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. Additionally, older versions of the safety masks have been fully upgraded with less bulky designs, making it easier to wear and maneuver.

Startup Aims to Bring Video Game Features to Real-World Paintball Combat

Overwatch Paintball App

Popularity of Combat Action Play

There’s no shortage of players in combat simulation video games such as that of the Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises. With each new title, more and more combat enthusiasts try their hands at first person shooter games, turning even the most unlikely of people into military heroes, if only in their fantasies. As technology progresses and games become more advanced, even true-life war fighters are finding the games fun, and sometimes frustrating, as they get fragged by hidden talents in these realistic simulations.

Those that prefer live action play will always direct themselves towards live combat action role playing (LCARP) using replica guns that shoot tiny plastic pellets or reenact through paintball combat. Much like the video games, both types of live action activities are usually played in some kind of staged arena with life-sized obstacles, barriers, and hiding places where each team eliminates the other by playing out combat roles towards a common objective. While the interest in live action play for the video game enthusiast is rising, there is a huge gap when playing with a controller and that of an actual mock weapon.

Bringing Video Games to Real Life

For 17 year-old Josh Moody, bridging that gap has become his primary mission. Moody, a paintball combat enthusiast as well as an avid gamer has started a company called Innovis Labs. The Bentonville, Arkansas teen developed a cell phone application that is aptly named Project Overwatch. The purpose of the app is to be able to apply the benefits of the first-person shooter advantage in video games to real-life applications.

In video games, a player often has an assortment of tools that help them accomplish their mission. One of the most commonly used and most helpful tool is the inclusion of an area map. The map generally lists the locations of the objective, your teammates, as well the location of any obstacles. Some maps include a general location of your enemies that you may have to encounter on your mission.

Project Overwatch uses live Global Positioning Systems and WiFi to generate a map of the playing arena complete with obstacles, objectives, and for those connected to the grid; player locations. The application then transmits this information between team members as well as allows them to communicate with each other. All by using their iPhone or Android smart phones.

How it Works

By implementing the use of 4G and other data transmitting protocols, the Project Overwatch app will allow players to communicate in any area where a signal is received. This opens the doors for players to engage in airsoft or paintball combat just about anywhere they want to play. Additional features such as “radar jamming,” where the players can scramble their signal so that only their team can see them on the map, are also in the development works and will be added on as a premium feature. The basic application, however, will be free to download.

The RotorTM has a transparent locking lid, integrated into an interchangeable dual density carrier, which allows for fast loading and a secure closure. The RotorTM has a 200-ball capacity, 20% more than most competing loaders, and a revolutionary spring-loaded collapsing floor. See-through windows make it easy to monitor your paint level. A simple squeeze of the Sharkfin Trigger, located on the underside of the Rotor, releases the jammed paint immediately. Tool-less maintenance makes assembly and disassembly a rapid, highly intuitive, and effortless process. A simple slide of the locking tab and push of a button enables the breakdown of the loader for basic cleaning and maintenance. The RotorTM is constructed with Dye’s proprietary Tuff Molding, In testing, we found that a Rotor built with Tuff Molding could withstand a drop from a three-story building. Coupled with a water resistant coated board makes this hopper fully functional even underwater. Nothing you’ll encounter on a paintball field could penetrate our Tuff Molding and cause your loader to break. So why not buy the best paintball hopper in the game? Because when it comes to mixing both style and top notch performance, the New Dye Rotor Paintball Loader Hopper is the number 1 choice.
