Paintball Gear – the Necessities

Congratulations on your engagement in the intense and highly-fun sport of paintball!  To begin, you’ll have to familiarize yourself with the necessities regarding paintball gear and equipment.  Depending on where you play, bare essentials are usually available for rent, yet you’ll soon find rental equipment is of low quality, warranting the purchase of bare necessities.

Let’s start with one of the most obvious necessities of paintball gear – the paintball gun (also called a marker).  Markers are offered in various sizes and host a number of varying features.  Of course, you’ll gravitate towards highly-efficient guns, yet in the beginning of your paintball career, be honest with yourself regarding your level of play.  It’s okay to be a novice; through continuous play, you’ll get increasingly better, developing your own style and using experience to your benefit.  You could start with a high-end gun purchase, but it’s suggested to get some experience under your belt first.

Logically following the purchase of a gun is the purchase of ammunition.  Like most paintball gear, all paintballs are not created equally.  High-quality balls adopt a spherical shape, making them more accurate, in addition to having smaller shells, making them break easier upon impact.

Paintball is an intense sport.  Some safety precautions need attention.  A safety mask is a necessity.  Don’t take the easy road and use just any mask.  Make sure you purchase a mask designed and used for the game of paintball.  Safety masks provide protection for the eyes, face, and head.  Be wary of attempting to save a few bucks; you get what you pay for regarding masks.  Cheaper masks won’t protect you as well as higher-end equipment.  If you’re trying to cut corners financially, we suggest not doing so with masks.

Clothing is another form of essential paintball gear.  Paintball clothes are heavy-duty, helping to absorb the impact of balls.  Advanced players search for camouflaged clothing, helping them stay hidden in sylvan settings such as the woods.  Camouflaged wear is not a necessity but does facilitate a covert position.  In addition, consider the kind of footwear chosen for play.  Sneakers or worn-in hiking boots are suggested.  The game requires a lot of movement and running in some situations.
